LITTLE RED POLITICALLY CORRECT RIDING HOOD PAGE 2

Here's page two of Little Red Politically Correct Riding Hood, written by the amazingly talented Clive Ward and hacked together by me, which first appeared in Smut comic...

I think it was my idea to have the wolf and the woodcutter wind up in bed.

LITTLE RED POLITICALLY CORRECT RIDING HOOD PAGE 1

This is part one (of two) of a strip I drew for Smut, the comic for adults. Editor Clive Ward needed to fill a couple of pages and was stuck for ideas, so he dug out an old script for me to draw.

I had just finished a 22-page strip with a crush deadline and was knackered, so I decided to have fun with it. I experimented with different nibs (I ink artwork using traditional dip pens) and added as many visual gags as occurred to me as I drew, no matter how daft. Clive's script was as usual brilliant, and his Red Riding Hood character was such a proper little madam that I decided to give her an enormous mouth and big hobnailed boots. Everybody must know a little girl like this. Or possibly I feel that way because I grew up with three sisters and no brothers.

THAT SPOT PAGE 8

This is page eight of Jack London's humorous short story That Spot, written by Antonella and drawn by me...

Antonella didn't specify in the script how Spot was supposed to have freed himself from the tree. I surmised that he must have stunned a passing beaver.

THAT SPOT PAGE 6

This is page six of our take on Jack London's humorous short story That Spot, written by Antonella and drawn by me...

This page took ages to draw, but I loved doing all the different characters in the bottom frame. The most difficult part, surprisingly, was drawing the lettering on the leaves of the calendar. I only had Photoshop 4.0 at the time, which has a transform function for distorting type, but it's a bit limited. I have a more advanced version of Photoshop now and stripping in the lettering would have been a doddle, but I think in this case I like the way it turned out, and given a choice, I think I would still have chosen to draw the lettering by hand.
