DENNIS THE CAT 2

While I was writing the previous post, an idea occured to me for another Dennis The Cat strip, so I made some time today and drew it...

Here's hoping John Freeman doesn't read this because I promised him if I had any spare time I'd draw a Really Heavy Greatcoat script he sent me.

DENNIS THE CAT

This is a spin-off strip from my regular cartoon strip, The Really Heavy Greatcoat (appearing in Virtual Lancaster, Down The Tubes, Comics International and here, of course). Dennis is an occasional character in the Greatcoat strips, and I decided to give him his own spin-off...

There was actually a real-life cat called Dennis, a big grey-and-white softie who used to use me for cuddles.

He "passed over the rainbow bridge" (died) due to heart problems a couple of years ago, but he'll always be my favourite cat (sorry Maggie).

The Dennis strip doesn't have a home at the moment, although it has occasionally been used as a filler in the Virtual Lancaster and Down The Tubes websites when I don't have time to do a Greatcoat strip. If there's anyone out there interested in buying a cat-related strip for their newspaper, magazine or website, you know where to find me...

caricatures and portraits 3

Here's another caricature I did about a year ago, this time a rather more respectful portrait of the late James Doohan, a.k.a. Scotty, for Star Trek Magazine...

something silly

Sorry Team Sputnik fans, but pressure of work means I haven't had time to organise the Mark Twain comic strip as promised. Normal service will be resumed next week. In the meantime, here's something silly I did a little while ago...

It's from my sketchbook, which I occasionally resort to when I have an idle moment. Why I was doodling Brunnhilde I don't know, I'm not an opera fan.

frank's wild years

This is a two-page strip we did for fun. I was listening to Tom Waits' album Swordfishtrombones which includes the spoken-word number Frank's Wild Years. As I listened, I thought "Hey, this would make a great comic strip". So Antonella wrote it and I drew it...

I should point out that this was done strictly for our own amusement and we haven't made a dime from it. We wrote to Jalma Music for permission to use Tom's lyrics but never got a reply. Don't rat us out.

CHILDREN'S BOOK ILLUSTRATIONS 2

Here's a few more samples of illustrations from children's stories we're working on...

These are from a book I'm developing with writer Clive Ward about a little girl and a snowman.

CHILDREN'S BOOK ILLUSTRATIONS 1

Here's some samples of illustrations for children's books Antonella and I are currently working on...

This character is called Dunstable D. Dragon. Originally devised by writer John Freeman, we're currently developing the character into a full-blown children's book.

SELINA SEDILIA PAGE 16

Here's the last page of Bret Harte's Selina Sedilia, written by Antonella and drawn by me, which first appeared in an edition of Graphic Classics a couple of years ago. From tomorrow, we'll be running our version of the Mark Twain short story, The Facts Concerning the Recent Carnival of Crime in Connecticut (I'll never fit that into the title bar)...
